America has a troubled history of engaging in wars of aggression that result in massive loss of civilian lives, economic and social devastation for the targeted countries, destruction of the environment, the loss of American lives, and the never-ending increase in the American debt. We could feed, house and provide all Americans with healthcare for what we spend on futile and immoral military pursuits.

As a human rights activist, I support America using its influence and, when strategically wise, economic pressure against oppressive regimes that commit human rights violations. But aggressive war is seldom, if ever, the answer. America should comply with its international obligations to prevent genocide.

America also has a terrible history of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity – which the bombing of the Iranian elementary school exemplifies. I am committed to not only voting against war, but holding the elected officials, generals and soldiers who participate in war crimes accountable, and collaborating with international and other courts in the prosecution of such crimes.

The war against Iran must stop, and America must take responsibility for the damage it inflicted. The United States should end all of its involvement in Venezuela, and allow the Venezuelan people to take control of their own country. We should reign in President Trump and his mad ambition to use the US military like a schoolyard bully.

However, we should understand the dangers that countries such as Russia present towards world peace and be ready to face these, when necessary.
